Book Launch Celebration (Sam Fox School)

The Sam Fox School will host an in-person "Book Celebration" on the Material World of Modern Segregation volume.
Dean Carmon Colangelo will provide opening remarks, followed by comments on the volume from Professor Jason Purnell of Washington University’s Brown School of Social Work, and director of Health Equity Works, and Heidi Aronson Kolk, project co-editor and contributor, and Assistant Professor, College of Art, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.
The centerpiece of the event will be four brief presentations highlighting the volume's contributions, by
Jasmine Mahmoud, Assistant Professor, School of Drama, University of Washington-Seattle ("Sighting Segregation: Black aesthetics and the materiality of art in Ferguson and St. Louis");
Michael R. Allen, Senior Lecturer, Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts ("The Long Reconstruction of Fairground Park: Spatial citizenship, race, and the public landscape");
Patty Heyda, Associate Professor, Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts ("The Façade of Redevelopment: Exploring the hidden politics of urban improvement and erasure in McRee Town, St. Louis"); and
John Early, Senior Lecturer + Undergraduate Academic Advising Coordinator, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts ("On the Surface of Things: How a weathered court reveals a rich material landscape that challenges conventional assumptions about marginalized urban communities").
The event will conclude with a 25 minute Q & A.
